Hey people! Sorry it’s been forever since I’ve posted something. On Thursday I was informed that the WHOLE holiday weekend is a Kroq of the 90’s Weekend. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s when the radio station 106.7 KROQ plays only rock from the 90’s. A lot of really great songs and artists came from the 90’s…so here’s a countdown of the best songs of the 90’s. (According to VH1 Classic)

The 90’s were a very influential decade on not only music…but style. Out of the 90’s came the infamous “Generation X”. Beck Hansen, an alternative/anti-folk artist basically described Generation X with his song, “Loser”. In an interview, Beck recalls seeing people with shirts that read “Loser” on the front; in reference to his song…and “Generation X” written on the back. But, Beck certainly was not the only artist to describe this new generation of teens.

In 1992, Nirvana came into the picture with their song “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. This song was like nothing anyone had ever heard before. My mom’s friend, Toby even described the song as “A breath of fresh air.” “Smells Like Teen Spirit” gave something completely new to the music world. Nirvana was a grunge band that had a loud yet quiet sound. Unfortunately, their very successful career was cut short when lead singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain committed suicide. This left teenagers everywhere devastated.

The 90’s were definitely my favorite era for music. Although grunge and alternative rock were huge at the time, there were lots of other artists and groups from different genres that were very popular as well. Pop groups like the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync were the favorites of many. I even have an ‘N Sync Barbie! Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, The Notorious B.I.G., Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre, 2pac, and many others gained a lot of popularity in the 90’s as well.

Here are some of my favorite artists from the 90’s. (The ones in bold are the most popular)

Alice In Chains, The Aquabats, The Ataris, Bad Religion, Beck, Blind Melon, Blink-182, Bloodhound Gang, Blur, Bush, Butthole Surfers, The Candy Skins, Chevelle, Chumbawamba, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, Face to Face, Filter, The Fluid, Foo Fighters, Gin Blossoms, Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, Harvey Danger, Hole, Hot Hot Heat, Incubus, Jane’s Addiction, Jimmy Eat World, Korn, The Lemonheads, Liam Lynch, Linkin Park, Lit, The Living End, Local H, Mary’s Danish, The Nextmen, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, No Doubt, Nobody, Oasis, The Offspring, Pearl Jam, Pennywise, Pixies, Porno for Pyros, The Presidents of the United States of America, Primus, Radiohead, Rancid, The Reatards, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reel Big Fish, Rollins Band, Smashing Pumpkins, Social Distortion, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime, Sugar Ray, Sum 41, Temple of the Dog, Tenacious D, They Might Be Giants, Third Eye Blind, Tool, Tripping Daisy, The Verve Pipe, The Verve, The Vines, Weezer, The White Stripes
