Merry Not Lame Christmas! by ClevelandBloggers

Guess what? Three days until Christmas! Now, I love the holidays…but the one thing I can’t stand is the CHRISTMAS CAROLS. I don’t mean to be a Scrooge, but after hearing jingle bells about fifty times…you need something refreshing. Something that actually kind of sounds like the music you would listen to on a regular basis.

There are actually A LOT of traditional and original Christmas songs that you can find on iTunes (or wherever you get music). Some of the artists that perform these songs are Weezer, No Doubt, Flyleaf, U2, Run-DMC, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson, The Ramones, Katy Perry, Smashing Pumpkins, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Barenaked Ladies, A Fine Frenzy, The Killers, Blink – 182, Fiona Apple, Jimmy Eat World, and Taking Back Sunday. That’s only naming a few!

The song that I recommend listening to the most would have to be “12 Days of Christmas”, by Taking Back Sunday. It’s their own take on the song “12 Days of Christmas”…and it’s HILARIOUS. It features Adam Lazzara and Fred Mascherino from the band playing a guitar and singing. They make random comments about the different odd gifts received on the twelve days of Christmas. It’s a really fun song, that can be found on iTunes and viewed here:

I know Hanukkah is already over, so this is late (sorry!)…but “The Hanukkah Song”, by Adam Sandler is a lot of fun to listen to during this time of year. It’s a little hard to find on iTunes though, because there are like three different versions of the song.

Another awesome holiday album (and possible gift for that person you don’t know what to get) is “Jack 2 Pack (The Nightmare Before Christmas)”. Not only does this have every song from The Nightmare Before Christmas…but it also has sixteen covers of these songs by popular artists including Marilyn Manson, The All-American Rejects, Korn, Rise Against, Plain White T’s, Shiny Toy Guns and a whole bunch of other amazing junk.

Hopefully this was helpful to any of you who want to do violent things when you hear “Frosty the Snowman”, and “Silent Night” over and over again. Happy holidays!

(P.S.) Don’t shoot your eye out!
